Our December 2019 STEM Camp for Teenage Girls will take place on December 14th – 21st, 2019. The theme for this year’s residential camp is, “A Renewable Future.” We have designed the program to expose students to the diverse renewable energy options available in Nigeria, while helping them harness this potential for economic growth and development. They will be taught the science behind solar power and will be given the opportunity to build demo projects to generate electricity using solar, hydro and turbine, and install basic solar systems.
The camp will comprise engaging classroom coursework, practical team activities, fun games, and a group project. Students will learn basic concepts in the science and engineering behind renewable energy. They will additionally put that knowledge into practice by building solar generation plant prototypes, solar powered devices, and much more. They will be encouraged to develop their own projects, which could be a simple power plant to light up a rural village. At the end of the camp, the students will no longer view science and math as boring, but will instead realize that the concepts are interesting, exciting, and are relevant to their daily lives. In addition, the girls will be coached to become better public speakers and to give engaging presentations.
All candidates must register by completing the application form by December 1, 2019. All interested students must deposit the sum of N1,000 (One Thousand Naira) into the Visiola Foundation’s Zenith Bank Account at the time of applying. Evidence of payment of the application fee may be requested.
The camp is free to students attending Government Secondary Schools. Private School Students are required to pay the reduced fee of N105,000 (boarding) and N85,000 (non-boarding).

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
- Must be an African girl aged 13 – 17 years.
- Must have completed her primary education in an African country.
- Must be currently enrolled in secondary school in an African country.
- Must be available for the full duration of the course.
Must submit a complete application including: (i) a 500-word statement explaining her interest in the camp; (ii) a letter of support from a parent/guardian; and (iii) Report Cards for the last academic year by December 1, 2019.
